Plunge Into Wild Ocean 3D On The Big Screen At Moody Gardens®

05/28/2008

Galveston, TX… Wild Ocean 3D is now on the big screen in the IMAX 3D theater at Moody Gardens®. An explosive, symphonic giant screen film that captures an epic struggle for survival, Wild Ocean 3D illustrates the relationship between man and nature during the biggest feeding frenzy in the oceans off South Africa.

The annual migration of billions of fish up the KwaZulu-Natal Wild Coast is a food source for both life in the sea and the people living along African shores. Global warming trends and over fishing have threatened the very existence of this great migration. For the last few hundred years, man has taken from the sea without giving back in any way, breaking the circle and mistakenly considering the ocean to be an unlimited resource.

Wild Ocean 3D explores a place where man attempts to fit into the food chain, pursing “sustainable” fishing practices in an attempt to preserve one of the most incredible migrations and feeding frenzies on the planet. In South Africa, business, government and the local people have joined forces in an attempt to protect the migration.

This new film is shown along with several other attractions that help enhance opportunities in education that support Moody Gardens’® mission to utilize nature in the advancement of rehabilitation, conservation, recreation and research. Other attractions at Moody Gardens® include the 1.5 million gallon Aquarium Pyramid® with a new Sharks In Depth exhibit also opening in May, the 10-story Rainforest Pyramid® featuring plants and animals from four of the world’s rainforests, the 4D Special FX Theater featuring Planet Earth: Shallow Seas 4D, Ridefilm Theater showing Dolphins: The Ride and Deep Sea: The Ride, the Colonel Paddlewheel Boat and Palm Beach.
