At the other attractions, re-entry is not allowed unless you have a Membership or 2-Day Pass because essentially you have unlimited admission with those ticket types. Q: Do any of your attractions have age or height requirements?
A: The only attraction with a height requirement is the Ridefilm theater, and guests must be at least 42 inches tall to ride. There are no age requirements for any attractions, but there are some age requirements for special programs like the Pyramid Kids Camps or Backstage Pass Tours.
Q: I heard that kids can get into one free attraction with good report cards. Please explain the details of this.
A: You are right! Kids can get one admission to an attraction of their choice by bringing in their report card (within 30 days of issuance), showing all A's or A's and B's. This offer is good for kids Pre-K through 12th grade. This offer cannot be used for admission to Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition.
Q: How do you prevent your sharks from eating all of the small fish in the Aquarium?
A: We try to prevent our sharks from eating the other fish by providing the correct types and amounts of prepared food to them on a scheduled basis. We calculate the amount of food as a percentage of their body to be fed weekly or until satiated, depending on the situation. The reasons are that we have a baseline weight to work from and can closely monitor their food consumption and make necessary adjustments up or down, depending on animal weight and aggression. Also, we make sure we offer them a variety of foods such as squid, salmon, mackerel, bonita, blue runner, and shrimp along with vitamins to insure we meet all of their nutritional requirements and give them a good variety of foods. Believe it or not, even sharks can be picky eaters! Our staff biologists do an excellent job in keeping our sharks well fed and in good health.
Q: We were there two weeks ago and I noticed several trees that had multiple trunks and were full of red flowers. Can you tell me what type of tree they are?
A: You are probably referring to the Jatropha interrigima, a small, sub-tropical tree that we use quite extensively here at Moody Gardens because of its prolific flowering. It blooms almost all year 'round. It attracts hummingbirds and butterflies. It will freeze, however, and must be protected from freezing temperatures. The only pest problems we have encountered are mealybugs, which can be controlled with insecticidal soaps. We use the common name of "Caribbean Star."
Q: Do you have a military discount for active duty military members and their families?
A: We do offer a military discount for active duty military members and immediate family in the form of a discounted day pass for only $21.00. The day pass gives you one admission to each of the Moody Gardens attractions. You must show an active military I.D. at the ticketing counter in order to receive the discount. Thanks to our service men and women for all they do for our country!
Q: There used to be a program called BACKSTAGE PASS in which you were able to feed the penguins and help make penguin art. Is this still available and if so what is the cost and how are reservations made?
A: Moody Gardens does have a "Backstage Pass" program for guests to get a taste of some behind-the-scenes action. Right now we are offering the Penguin and Seal Pass, where participants spend a six-hour day side-by-side with one of the aquarium's biologists, helping prepare meals, feed the penguins, meet a seal, and assist with penguin art or other enrichment programs. You must be at least 16 years old, and it is limited to three people per tour. The cost is $175 per person, and includes aquarium admission and a buffet lunch at the Garden Restaurant. Penguin and Seal Pass programs are held every other Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m. It is important to know that these programs fill up quickly and are often booked a couple months in advance. For reservations and more information, you can call 800-582-4673, ext. 4233.
