Speaker: Mr. Pete W. Rygaard

Description: Join us as we hear about the lives of two immigrant families – the Rygaard’s from Denmark and the Munster’s from Germany. Both families settled in Galveston, where Mr. Rygaard’s parents met, married, and thrived.

Biography: Pete W. Rygaard, is a BOI (born on the Island). He and his wife, also a BOI, later moved to Texas City where they raised their family. Mr. Rygaard served as mayor of La Marque and severed the city as an elected official for fourteen years. He and his wife are active genealogists and are currently writing a book about the Rygaard family tree. Through their research, their family tree has grown to include over 700 names!

Every first and third Saturdays at 1 p.m., local descendants and cultural organizations speak of unique immigration experiences through Galveston Island and lives in Texas.
