The Habit of Healing
In response to a call from Catholic Bishop Claude Marie Dubuis, three women from France sailed to Galveston in 1866. With their arrival the new Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word was founded. These Sisters opened the first Catholic hospital in Texas and soon started an orphanage. With a proud heritage that began in Galveston, the Congregation today is multicultural and international as it continues to serve those in need in five countries.
Location: Pompano Room, Aquarium Pyramid Lower Level
Every first and third Saturdays 1 p.m., local descendants and cultural organizations speak of unique immigration experiences through Galveston Island and lives in Texas. |
